Legacy Letters: A Family Tradition Worth Starting

By Marty Elberg · 1 min read

Holiday cards are lovely, but what if you left behind a letter that could be cherished forever?

A legacy letter is a heartfelt, non-legal document that accompanies your Will or estate plan. It shares your values, hopes, life lessons, and love with those you leave behind. It's not about money. It's about meaning.

Ideas to include

  • Why you made certain decisions in your plan
  • Stories you want preserved
  • Words of wisdom or personal blessings
  • Messages for future generations

Start this as a family tradition and encourage everyone to write one. You can read them aloud (if you feel brave) or seal them in envelopes for the future. This is planning from the heart.
